Technical Writer

Looking for an Agency Technical Writer?

If you represent a technical documentation agency and are looking for an experienced, reliable technical writer, maybe I can help. Although I mostly work directly for clients, I am open to the idea of working as an agency technical writer (and have done in the past).

I’ve included a brief overview of my background and skills below, and you can also find out more on my Experience pages (see the menu) and my LinkedIn profile.

Technical Writing Experience

15 years’ experience as an employed technical writer for Serck Controls, documenting SCADA software (utilities industry).

Since 2012, I have worked as a freelance technical writer. I have produced end-user documentation for pelvic floor health devices, data centre cooling hardware, data centre cooling software, timecode synchronisation devices, water pumps, and more. I have also documented code (API), working processes in hardware assembly and installs, and an out of hours health service (providers to the NHS).

I have worked solo, in documentation teams, and in software development teams. This included working in an agile environment.

Authoring Tools

I have worked with the following tools:

  • Paligo (structured XML CMS and authoring tool)
  • MadCap Flare
  • Atlassian Confluence
  • Adobe FrameMaker (Non-Structured)
  • Adobe InDesign
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • MS Word
  • MS PowerPoint
  • Techsmith Snag-it and Camtasia
  • Divi

I am also familiar with CSS, HTML, CSS. I have a basic understanding of DITA.

I’ll Treat your Clients Like My Own

When I work an an agency technical writer, I offer the same high level of service I offer my own clients. I fully understand that you need to protect your business and will do everything possible to make sure both you and your client are happy with my work.

I am quite willing to agree to terms that prevent me working directly for the client for a given amount of time.

I work outside IR35 and need to protect my status, so that’s something to bear in mind.
