I Bring 20 Years' of Software Technical Writing Expertise to your Project
When you're looking for a technical writer, it's natural that you want to find someone who has worked on software that is similar to yours. I understand that completely (but don't get too hung up on it). What sort of software have I worked on? Let's see...
- SCADA Systems - remote control of equipment, remote monitoring, sensors, Internet of Things, smart technology, SaaS
- Online Auction Software - browsing for products, online purchases, completing legally required paperwork online, etc.
- Healthcare Software - logging call centre calls, classifying patient's symptoms, forwarding details to relevant departments, etc.
- Financial Blotter Software - used to manipulate grids used in the financial sector, so lots of queries, filtering, and sorting.
For most of these projects, I worked as part of the software development team, and followed agile (or agile-ish) processes. So I won't run a mile when you mention a sprint or start cracking one-liners when you say it's time for a stand-up.
As I've worked in a software team, I understand the processes involved in creating software, and know how to approach software developers. Over the years, I've encountered all sorts of personalities, so I'm not put off by techies!
If your software is completely different to what I've worked on, don't worry, I can still help. The principles for documenting software are the same, irrespective of what your application does. It's all about understanding who the end user is, what they need, and how the information should be presented.
