In this series of blog posts, I'm exploring the world of UX writing by completing the Daily UX challenges set by https://www.dailyuxwriting.com.
This post covers the challenge for Day #3.
Scenario
The user is trying to sign in to their account and has entered an incorrect email address.
Challenge
Tell the user to enter the right email.
40 characters max
My answer
This one was tight with the character count. I wanted to try and account for two possible reasons for the error:
The user has entered the correct email address, but has made a mistake when typing it.
The user has entered a different email address than the one they use for this account.
As the character limit is strict, I focused on what the user needs to do to fix the problem - either correct a mistake or use a different address. I'm not sold on using the word 'typo', but I don't think I had enough characters to allow for mistake.
In an ideal world, I'd want the message to be more descriptive, but it was difficult with so few characters.
Looking for a UX writer?
Do you need a UX writer for your project? I'd love to hear from you. I've worked in software teams for most of my career as a technical writer and have trained as a content designer and copywriter too. I know about user journeys, work flows, and user-centred content. Microcopy, long form content, I can do it all.
Craig Wright is an experienced technical writer based in Chesterfield, UK. Â He hates writing about himself in the third person, so I shall stop now.
Always interested in new content writing opportunities. Remote working preferred.
